Course Content:
- Bioenergetics and Thermodynamics: Biological oxidation reduction reactions, ATP and its role in various metabolic processes; Functions of various proteins: Immunoglobulin, Oxygen carrier proteins,
- Metabolic pathways; Glycolysis, gluconeogenesis, pentose phosphate pathway and their regulations; TCA/Kreb’s cycle and its regulation: Production of Acetyl-CoA, reactions of the Citric Acid Cycle Glyoxylate pathway.
- Fatty acid biosynthesis and degradation: Digestion, Mobilization, and Transport of Fats, Oxidation of Fatty Acids, Ketone Bodies;
- Amino acid biosynthesis and degradation; nitrogen excretion and the Urea Cycle;
- Nucleotide metabolism: Pathways and their regulations.
- Clinical biochemistry: Metabolic Syndrome, Diabetes Insipidus and Mellitus, Hyperlipidemia
