Report on Janjatiya Gaurav Divas – 2024 celebrated at IISER Berhampur
About the Event:
IISER Berhampur has celebrated the 4th Janjatiya Gaurav Divas at its Campus to commemorate the birth anniversary of tribal freedom fighter – “Bhagwan Birsa Munda” and the contribution of other tribal freedom fighters. Janjatiya Gaurav Divas is a public celebration of the tribal community to the Indian Society and heritage in general.
To ensure the sacrifices of these tribal unsung heroes are never forgotten, the Govt. of India declared 15th November as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. The day celebrates the glorious history, culture, and heritage of tribal communities, with events held nationwide to foster unity, pride, and recognition of their significant contributions to India’s freedom and progress. Thus, IISER Berhampur has celebrated this event in a befitting manner.
Celebration of the event on Nov 15, 2024:
Prof. Ashok Kumar Ganguli, Director of the Institute, Faculty Members, Officers/Officials and Students offered floral tribute to Bhagwan Birsa Munda on the occasion of his birth anniversary. The Director addressed the gathering, highlighting the cultural, social, and historical significance of tribal communities in shaping the diversity of Indian society and their contributions to the freedom movement. The Director emphasized the need to preserve tribal heritage and promote awareness about the challenges faced by these communities.
The Director has also briefed Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s struggled life and dedication to the society. From an early age, he showed a strong sense of cultural pride and an interest in social justice. His family belonged to the Munda tribe, which is part of the larger Adivasi community in central India.
