Shikha Gandhi - IISER berhampur

Biography

Shikha was born in Punjab, India and did her Masters from Panjab University, Chandigarh in 2004. She subsequently joined the group of Prof. Vinod K. Singh at IIT Kanpur and graduated with a doctoral degree in 2009. She then moved to the Max Planck Institute fur Kohlenforschung, Germany to work in the group of Prof. Benjamin List for her postdoctoral stint. In 2013, she took up the position of a scientist at Piramal Healthcare Ltd. Subsequently she moved to IISER Bhopal in 2015 to join as a Visiting Faculty. She has been the Assistant Professor at IISER Berhampur since March 2017.

Research Interests

The research in my group is focused on ‘catalysis’, in particular on the use of catalysis to effect enantioselectivity in organic transformations. Our focus is also on developing new ligands and catalysts, introducing new concepts for asymmetric catalysis and exploiting them to solve the challenges in the asymmetric synthesis. Motivated by the zeal to provide practical solutions to the existing problems in asymmetric synthesis, our group aims to contribute to the development of the processes that are scalable, efficient from the point of view of atom economy and are environmentally benign.
