‘Releasing Therapeutic Gases in Neurons and Transgenics: Modulating Neurodegenerative Conditions and Neuroinflammation’
My presentation will deal with metabolically triggered systems for delivering gaseous neurotransmitters to neurons and in transgenics. With directed chemical manipulations, neuronal transport, and mechanistic understanding, we have tried to break new grounds in addressing ROS suppression, cognitive enhancement in neurologically compromised models and reduction in neuroinflammation marker proteins. We will also share some advances in wireless neuroengineering protocols and organ-on-a-chip device being developed in our laboratory.
Prof. Sandeep Verma - Prof. Sandeep Verma is an Indian bioorganic chemist and chemical biologist, and a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. His research interests include peptide/protein assemblies for disease modeling, soft biomaterials, bioimaging, and surface chemistry of metal complexes.
His work has been recognized by numerous awards such as Swarnajayanti Fellowship (2005), Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize in Chemical Sciences (2010), Department of Atomic Energy-Science Research Council Outstanding Investigator Award (2012), Ranbaxy Research Award in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2013), J C Bose National Fellowship (2013), Silver Medal, Chemical Research Society of India (2017), and National Prize for Research on Interfaces between Chemistry and Biology (2017).
He is also an elected Fellow of all three science and engineering Academies of India: the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Sciences, India; and also of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK).
