IISER Berhampur is pleased to host the Fourth P. K. Parija Lecture, an annual distinguished lecture series supported by the generous endowment of the Prof. P. K. Parija Charitable Trust (Odisha). This lecture series commemorates the legacy of Prof. Prana Krushna Parija, an eminent botanist, educationist, and visionary whose contributions continue to inspire generations of scholars.
As part of this year’s lecture, we are honoured to welcome Prof. Rajendra Achyut Badwe, one of India’s most distinguished surgical oncologists and a globally respected leader in cancer research and public health.

The lecture will provide valuable clinical insights into cancer metastasis, one of the most critical challenges in oncology. Drawing from decades of experience, the speaker will present perspectives that bridge clinical practice, research, and public health, with particular emphasis on strategies relevant to diverse and resource-constrained healthcare settings.
Prof. Rajendra Achyut Badwe is a renowned surgical oncologist with over four decades of experience in cancer care, research, and education. He previously served as the Director of the Tata Memorial Centre, where he played a pivotal role in expanding access to quality cancer treatment and strengthening the National Cancer Grid across India.
Internationally recognized for his pioneering contributions to breast cancer research and cost-effective treatment approaches, Prof. Badwe has trained at leading global institutions, including Toranomon Hospital (Tokyo) and Guy’s Hospital and the Royal Marsden Hospital (London).
His exceptional contributions have been recognized with several prestigious honours, including the Padma Shri (2013), the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Award, and the UICC Reach to Recovery International Medal.
Prof. Prana Krushna Parija (1891–1978) was a distinguished botanist, academic leader, and public figure from Odisha. He held several prominent positions, including Principal of Ravenshaw College, Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, and Vice-Chancellor of Utkal University.
A pioneer in agricultural science and education, Prof. Parija made lasting contributions to academic and institutional development in India. He was honoured with the Padma Bhushan (1955) and the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE).
