Achieving Genetic Breakthrough

IISER Berhampur Researchers Develop Nanotechnology-Based Biosensing Platform for Rapid Detection of Turner Syndrome

Overview:

Researchers from the Department of Chemical Sciences at IISER Berhampur, led by Dr. Parikshit Moitra, have developed an advanced nanotechnology-enabled biosensing platform for the rapid and highly sensitive detection of DNA signatures associated with Turner syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. The research has been published in the prestigious journal Advanced Functional Materials.

The newly developed biosensing platform integrates an emissive covalent organic framework, gold nanostars, and gene-specific oligonucleotide probes to enable accurate molecular detection of Turner syndrome-associated DNA. Designed for rapid and sensitive analysis, the technology has the potential to support early diagnosis and facilitate the development of point-of-care genetic testing strategies, particularly in resource-limited settings.

This research represents a significant advancement in the application of nanotechnology for precision diagnostics and highlights IISER Berhampur's growing contributions to interdisciplinary research at the interface of chemistry, nanoscience, and biomedical innovation.
