Dr. Barla Thirupathi was born in Madavelli, Telangana, in 1984. He completed his M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry at Osmania University (2006–2008) and subsequently worked at Aragen Life Sciences before joining CSIR–IICT, Hyderabad, as a Junior Research Fellow for his Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. D. K. Mohapatra (2009–2015). He later served as an Associate Research Scientist at Sai Life Sciences.
From 2015 to 2018, he pursued postdoctoral research at Harvard University with Prof. E. J. Corey, where he developed fluorinated second-generation oxazaborolidine catalysts for enantioselective Diels–Alder reactions. In 2018, Dr. Thirupathi joined IISER Berhampur as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and was promoted to Associate Professor in February 2024.
He is a recipient of the 2023 Thieme Chemistry Journals Award, a Life Member of the Chemical Research Society of India (CRSI), and an Associate Fellow of the Telangana Academy of Sciences (2024).
